Adrian Mateos Leads $1,000,000 Macau Main Event Final Table

The final table of the Triton Super High Roller Series Macau Main Event is set. A field of 83 entries has been reduced to just nine finalists who will return on Friday to battle on the felt for a top prize of HK$22,410,400 (US$2,872,299).

Spanish phenom Adrian Mateos closed out Day 2 with the chip lead, propelled by the last minute elimination of James Chen to end the night with 4,785,000. German poker prodigy Fedor Holz bagged second best with a stack of 4,325,000.

The rest of the final table consists of Dietrich Fast (3,370,000), Kahle Burns (2,625,000), Timothy Adams (2,185,000), start of Day 2 chipleader Stephen Chidwick (1,395,000), Isaac Haxton (1,075,000), and Poker Hall of Fame member John Juanda (990,000).

There were 43 hopefuls who returned to the Galaxy Macau Hotel Thursday afternoon, joined by a few last minute entries including Juanda, Bryn Kenney, and Russian pros Timofey Kuznetsov and Furkat Rakhimov.

Interestingly enough, Kuznetsov busted in 14th place, two off the money and Rakhimov was eliminated on the direct money bubble, falling in 13th place. Once the bubble popped, Manig Loeser, the last remaining former champion, was the first to put himself at risk. Loeser got it in good against fellow countryman Fedor Holz with ace-four to Holz’s queen-jack but a jack on the flop ended his run in 12th place for HK $2,108,000 (US $270,157)

JC Alvarado busted in 11th place after flopping two pair against Fast, but the German flopped a better two pair and the Mexican pro said his goodbyes collecting HK $2,186,000 (US $280,154).

The final table was set with an elimination on each of the final two tables. Mike Watson ran into Burns’ pocket tens with ace-ten of hearts and managed to flop a flush draw, but Burns was able to fade the run out and send Watson to the rail in 10th place. Along with his runner-up finish in the HK $250,000 6-Max event earlier in the week, Watson adds HK $2,265,000 (US $290,263) for the trip.

While Watson was getting eliminated, James Chen was involved in a massive pot with Adrian Mateos. Mateos shoved on the river in a 1.3M chip pot and after getting the clock called on him, Chen called for his tournament life with five seconds left and wasn’t able to beat Mateos’ trip nines.

The final table is set to kick off at 1 PM local time Friday afternoon and play will continue until a brand new Main Event champion is crowned.

Stephen Chidwick Leads Day 1 of Triton Super High Roller Macau

The HK$1,000,000 Main Event of the 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series Macau played out over the course of nine levels Wednesday at the Galaxy Macau Hotel in Taipa, Macau. A total of 73 entries were received throughout the day with Stephen Chidwick leading 43 survivors.

The action kicked off at 1 p.m. local time and attracted the likes of Erik Seidel, Fedor Holz, John Juanda, Richard Yong, Winfred Yu, along with former Triton Super High Roller Series Main Event champions Manig Loeser (Montenegro), Koray Aldemir (Manila), and Wai Kin Yong (Manila).

Seidel, who sits in second place on the all-time money list is still in the hunt. If the American poker legend is able to make a deep run he could pass Daniel Negreanu for first on that prestigious list. Seidel is just over US $1,000,000 behind Negreanu and the way this event is shaping up, Seidel may be able to finish as low as third place to get the job done.

Wai Kin Yong, Loeser, and Aldemir all survived though the latter two required a second bullet. Loeser, who is the current defending champion ended with 333,000 while Yong closed out the day with 554,000 and Aldemir bagged 136,000.

Juanda busted late on Day 1 and chose not to re-enter. Holz is moving on to Day 2 after sealing 632,000 in his bag for Thursday. Richard Yong will continue on as well with a stack of 554,000 and Winfred Yu is safe closing with 226,000.

Day 1 belonged to Chidwick though as he bagged the chip lead building a stack of 924,000 by day’s end. The UK pro made the most of his second bullet after busting early in the day when his aces got cracked by Seidel, moments after Seidel took his seat. Chidwick left for a period of time and returned with a vengeance.

Finishing with the second-best stack was Canadian Timothy Adams who mustered a healthy pile of 903,000 chips. Justin Bonomo (817,000), Matthew Moss (798,000), Wiktor Malinowski (755,000) round out the top five on the leaderboard.

Day 2 Seat Draw:

Not all is lost for anyone who wasn’t able to survive the day or not able to make it to the registration desk in time. Late registration and unlimited re-entry remain open until the end of the break following Level 10 on Day 2, approximately 2:10 p.m..

Day 2 gets underway at 1 p.m. local time and play will continue until a final table of nine is formed. Those nine finalists will return to action on Friday at 1 p.m. to play down to a winner.

Stefan Schillhabel Wins Triton Super High Roller Macau $250,000 6-Max

The first-ever Triton Super High Roller Series champion on the shores of Asia’s largest gaming destination has been crowned. Germany’s Stefan Schillhabel captured the HK $250,000 6-Max title and a top prize of HK$5,874,400 early Wednesday morning defeating Canadian Mike Watson heads up at the Galaxy Macau Hotel in Taipa, Macau.

Schillhabel topped a record-setting field of 87 entries en route to his fifth tournament title of his career. With the win, Schillabel’s live-recorded tournament earnings will climb to over US $6,500,000. This cash amounts to about US $752,000 which is the third-best cash of his career. His top cash coming in May of 2017 when he placed third in the Aria Super High Roller Bowl, banking US$2,400,000.

Schillhabel came into Day 2 sitting in the middle of the pack with 50 players returning to action. He would stay there for the majority of play until the final two tables were reached. When the final table kicked off, Schillhabel sat in fifth place of seven. It wasn’t until he doubled through Dan Smith with five players remaining that Schillhabel began to take control.

An impressive collection of the world’s best poker stars gathered in Macau to shatter the previous attendance record set in Manila earlier this year. In fact, with the 43 entries in that event and the 41 received in Montenegro a few months later, the Macau 6-Max event attracted a field larger than both of the previous stops combined.

All in all, a prize pool of $20,462,400 was created with the top 12 spots earning a prize. After the start-of-day chip leader, Ben Lamb, fell in 14th place, Dario Sammartino busted to burst the money bubble. A short-stacked Sammartino survived two all-ins but would finally get cracked when he ran into Mike Watson’s pocket queens.

A barrage of eliminations followed claiming the tournament lives of Daniel Dvoress (12th – HK $552,000), Christoph Vogelsang (11th – HK $573,000), David Peters (10th – HK $593,000), Stanley Choi (9th – HK $614,000), and Furkat Rakhimov (8th – HK $634,000) before the final table of seven was set.

Smith took the chip lead into the final table but it was Watson who struck first, taking out Yat Wai Cheng who had just a few big blinds. Watson wasn’t finished, sending Isaac Haxton to the rail next when his ace-ten won a race against Haxton’s pocket eights.

The final five players battled for the better part of four levels with the chip lead touching the hands of Smith, Watson, and Schillhabel more than once as they fought back and forth. Eventually, Steve O’Dwyer’s run came to an end when he lost a race to Smith. The fortunes quickly changed for Smith as he suffered a couple beats from Schillabel and ultimately busted to the German calling off on the river when Schillabel made a straight. Smith mucked and went to collect his fourth place price.

A heads-up battle between Watson and Schillabel was set when Manig Loeser lost the majority of his chips to Schillabel and was unable to recover after a couple of double ups. Schillabel began the heads-up bought with a five to one chip advantage and just one hand in, Schillhabel had Watson at risk.

Watson open-shoved with pocket sixes and Schillhabel put hi at risk with jack-ten. Schillhabel found a jack on the flop and held to claim the title, the trophy, a brand new Hublot watch, a custom bottle of Armand de Brignac Champagne, and of course, all the money.

The highlight and headlining event of the series is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The Main Event takes center stage and the buy-in raises to HK $1,000,000 (approx. US $128,000). Another huge and stacked field is expected with the likes of Fedor Holz, Dan Cates, Paul Newey, Lauren Roberts and Tom Dwan yet to take a seat in the series.

Ben Lamb Bags Biggest Stack on Day 1 of Triton Super High Roller Macau

Day 1 action wrapped up Monday evening in the 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series HK $250,000 6-Max Event. A field of 70 entries gathered throughout the day with Ben Lamb leading a pack of 50 survivors after nine levels of play.

A who’s who of the best hold’em players in the world funneled into the poker room of the Galaxy Macau Hotel in Taipa, Macau Monday afternoon. This was the first stop at Asia’s largest gaming destination for the Triton Super High Roller Series. Play kicked off at 4 p.m. local time and the field grew right up until the final moments of Day 1.

Lamb bagged a stack of 184,300 to claim the top spot. Lamb finished the day with quite a distance from his closest competitor, Stephen Chidwick, who used the most out of a second bullet to close out with 129,300. Michael Addamo (128,900), Christoph Vogelsang (124,500), and Mikita Badziakouski (116,400) round out the top five stacks.

Recent Poker Masters champion Steffen Sontheimer just missed out on a top five spot ending the night with 114,800 while the likes of Dietrich Fast (112,800) and Li Bjorn (106,400) who both led at different parts of the day are also moving on.

Day 2 will kick off at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and play will continue until a champion is crowned. The end has not come for anyone though as late registration and unlimited re-entry will remain open until after Level 10 on Day 2 (approx. 1:40 p.m.).

Anyone unfortunate enough to not make a deep run on Day 2 will at least be able to rest up for the Main Event. The highlight and headlining event of the series is set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The Main Event takes center stage and the buy-in raises to HK $1,000,000 (approx. US $128,000).

Manig Loeser Triumphs at the Triton Super High Roller Series 2017 Montenegro

The Triton Super High Roller 2017 Montenegro Main Event saw a total of 47 players (including re-entries) cough up the hefty HK$1,000,000 (~$128,140) buy-in with nine players opting for a second (or third in some cases) shot at fortune and glory when the cards failed to fall their way.

A total of 25 players successfully locked up their Day 2 seat after nine 60-minute levels with China’s Wang Qiang leading the charge, but with registration remaining open until the start of level 10 at 1pm CET on Wednesday 19 July this figure is likely to increase before the final numbers are in.

Fedor Holz, Liang Yu, and David Peters were just some of those who chose to re-enter with Dominik Nitsche and Paul Phua choosing to re-enter not twice, but thrice.

Phua re-entered for a third time just as play concluded a little after 11:15pm CET after losing a race with pocket tens against the ace-queen of Sam Trickett in one of the last three hands of the day and Phua will be returning with the 250,000 start stack when play resumes on Day 2.

However, it was 2016 Global Poker Index Player of the Year David Peters’ exit that was one of the more painful ones, at least for the US-pro, who got the last of his chips in on the turn with jack-six offsuit after defending his big blind against a Wang Qiang early position open midway through the last level.

Peter’s had flopped top and bottom pair but was trailing to Qiang’s flopped set of nines. However, one man’s poison is another man’s meat and that pot catapulted Qiang up to the giddy heights of the chip lead with the Chinese player the only man to break the seven-figure mark.

Qiang bagged up an impressive 1,040,000 in chips, snatching the lead from Belarusian Mikita Badziakouski who had been in pole position for a large portion of the day after eliminating China’sLiang Yu partway through level two to climb to double the average stack.

Badziakouski used this early lead to stick near the top of the leaderboard for the majority of the day and he finished play just behind Qiang with a stack of 843,000.

Another player who was able to capitalize on some early good fortune was Greece’s Antonios Paschalidis who won a monster pot from John Juanda midway through the day with the two getting all the chips in on an eight-high flop in a four-bet pot with pocket kings and pocket queens respectively. Paschalidis stacked up to 830,000 in chips after the hand, a stack he managed to maintain until play concluded, though Juanda was not so fortunate.

Defending champion Koray Aldemir (146,000) and former champion Wai Kin Yong (247,000) are amongst the hopefuls that will return for Day 2.

The action will resume at exactly 1pm CET with level 10 and blinds of 4,000-8,000 with a running ante of 1,000. All new entries will receive 250,000 in chips and the event is scheduled to play down to the official eight-handed final table on Day 2.
